OTMARO RUIZ - piano
LARRY KOONSE - guitar
BOB SHEPPARD - woodwinds
3 of the most genius, prolific jazz players in the world, playing originals and covers
in an intimate setting.
The venue is a great house venue in Highland Park area
of Los Angles, just north of downtown L.A.
Otmaro Ruiz https://www.otmaro.com, is considered one of the most important jazz pianists in the current scene, known for his versatility and virtuosity. The long list of re-known musicians with whom Otmaro works, constantly confirms his versatility, proving that this jazz giant sails with ease in many different styles, from Straight-Ahead jazz to Pop-Rock, from the most authentic Salsa & Afro-Cuban to the most exciting Fusion, with unusual ability to express his own language both at the acoustic piano and in the electronic world of synthesizers.
Larry Koonse https://larrykoonse.com, the son of guitarist Dave Koonse, earned the first-ever Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at USC. Early on, Larry toured the world with the Johnny Dankworth/Cleo Laine band, and went on to work with Hubert Laws, Natalie Cole, Luciana Souza, Bob Brookmeyer, Charlie Haden, Alan Broadbent, and many others. He performed in South Africa by invitation of Nelson Mandela/UNICEF, and has been a featured soloist with orchestras around the world, including our own L.A. Philharmonic. It's hard to look anywhere in the jazz world without seeing Larry Koonse connected.
Bob Sheppard https://www.bobsheppard.net, For more than four decades, the multi-instrumentalist has played on countless sessions with an astounding crop of A-list jazz giants-among them Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Michael and Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Lyle Mays, John Beasley and Steps Ahead-and artists within several other genres. He's also recorded and toured as a leader, contributed to hundreds of movie and TV soundtracks, served as an educator and more.
This is an incredible opportunity to hear truly great jazz, in a great environment. A true "hang" in the best way!
